Capital Power Supports Our Troops at Honda Indy

EDMONTON, Alberta – July 22, 2010 – Capital Power Corporation and the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) are teaming up to support our troops by being part of Red Friday saluting Canada’s military personnel at the Honda Indy Edmonton.

“Capital Power Corporation proudly recognizes the contributions of the men and women of the Canadian Forces,” said Capital Power President and CEO, Brian Vaasjo. “That’s why we are excited to be associated with the Edmonton Garrison MFRC and support the important programs and services they offer to our military personnel and their families.”

Capital Power will match the sales of yellow ribbon merchandise that is sold during the event by the MFRC. The Yellow Ribbon magnets, stickers and other merchandise will be on sale at the Canadian Forces display. With the purchase of any Yellow Ribbon item on Red Friday you could also win a soldier for a day package with 1 Service Battalion.

The MFRC is a charitable organization which provides family resources to military families based out of Edmonton Garrison. Services provided include on-site childcare at the Garrison, youth programs, parenting programs, and family support deployment programs.

“We are extremely thankful for the partnership that has developed between the MFRC and Capital Power,” said Roza Parlin, Executive Director of the Edmonton Garrison Military Family Resource Centre. “Their belief in our cause can clearly be seen in this extremely generous offer of matching funds raised through Yellow Ribbon Merchandise at the Honda Indy Edmonton of up to $5,000. What an amazing gift for our troops and their families!”

Funds raised through the sale of merchandise by the MFRC will be matched by Capital Power up to a maximum of $5,000. Capital Power will also be providing Honda Indy Edmonton race tickets to members of the military and MFRC volunteers. In addition, Capital Power is donating a number of tickets for the Canadian Navy’s Naden Band performance at the Winspear Centre on July 23 to MFRC staff as well as members of the military.

Capital Power employees and their families are also being invited to volunteer alongside the MFRC volunteers throughout the weekend. Capital Power supports employees and their families who volunteer through the EmPowering Communities Volunteer Grant. Staff who volunteer 35 hours or more of their time are eligible for a $300 donation to be made to the non-profit community service organization or charity of their choice.

Capital Power is a Grandstand Sponsor of the Honda Indy Edmonton taking place July 23 -25 at the City Centre Airport.
