Twenty exceptional projects across North America were selected, receiving up to $20,000 towards their grassroots initiatives to enhance sustainability and benefit our communities.

2023 Recipient Update

Goodwill Industries of Alberta – Repurpose by GW

In 2023, Goodwill Industries of Alberta received a $20,000 CSF grant for their Repurpose by GW program, where Goodwill’s in-house workplace staffed by Calgarians with disabilities transform unsold denim from Goodwill stores into beautiful reusable bags for purchase.

The CSF grant was used to purchase sewing machines, equipment, and supplies and to fund training and salaries for those creating the bags during the program’s first three months.

Goodwill’s initial report showed an impressive impact:

  • 357 reusable bags have been produced by the program, equivalent to approximately 535 pairs of jeans
  • 403 hours of employment for four individuals with disabilities
  • 2,140 pounds of CO2 saved from entering the atmosphere
  • 4,066,000 litres of water saved

Congratulations to Goodwill Industries of Alberta for this incredible initiative, which received an Environmental Achievement Award from the City of Calgary – learn more.
